Discomfort Is Not Always Danger

One of the things I’ve been thinking about lately is how quickly discomfort gets translated as “not safe.”

Especially now.

In a culture where so much of the conversation around safety is external, it’s important to also understand how the body registers unfamiliarity, uncertainty, and being “the only one” in the room.

In this clip from a podcast conversation, I reflect on my early experiences walking into yoga spaces as often the only Black man in the room and what it taught me about discomfort, nervous system regulation, and practice.

Not practice as perfection.
Practice as capacity.

The willingness to stay present long enough for the nervous system to learn:
“I can be uncomfortable without immediately being unsafe.”

That muscle can grow.

And in many ways, that growth changes how we move through life.

Curious what comes up for you as you listen.
